Ceramic Coatings in Athens, GA

A ceramic coating is an extremely thin, semi-permanent layer of silica-based resin designed to prevent environmental contaminates (think tree sap, bug guts, and bird droppings) from damaging your paint while also providing a layer of UV shielding. Ceramic coatings will enhance the depth and gloss of your paint, and last for 1-5 years depending on the coating product used. A ceramic coating is not a miracle in a bottle: although it acts as a physical barrier against contaminants, it is not impermeable. Proper car care is still required to maintain the appearance of painted surfaces.

Applying a ceramic coating is a labor intensive process that begins with thoroughly decontaminating and polishing the paint (paint correction) to remove scratches, swirls, and unsightly defects. Even brand new vehicles usually require some level of correction. Factory paint jobs, as good as they may be, still have the potential to be contaminated and damaged in transport—and almost always have potential for improvement. Dark colored vehicles and non metallic paint require a much greater paint correction effort. Once the paint is corrected, a SiO2 based ceramic coating is applied by hand and allowed to cure in a controlled environment for at least 12 hours before it can be released to the customer.

Ceramic Coating FAQ

  • No, ceramic coatings can be applied to any type of car.

  • Ceramic coatings are unable to prevent scratches. Cars get scratched usually from the way they are washed or the locations they are parked. To avoid scratches, never use a drive thru car wash, deck brush, or any kind of abrasive material to wash your car. Avoid driving by bushes or other plant material, and don’t park in areas where rambunctious activity is going on. Some scratches just happen as a result of life, and polishing the paint can usually take care of them.

  • Depending on environmental conditions, your ceramic coating may benefit from maintenance products. In most cases, however, applying waxes, sealants, or other off-the-shelf products to your ceramic coated car is of questionable benefit and may decrease the effectiveness of the coating. Please ask about your unique situation before using maintenance products.

  • Cars usually accumulate water spots when frequently parked outdoors in wooded areas or in the direct path of sprinkler systems. If you notice water spots on your car, do not use abrasives or polishes.
